The Eli & Edythe Broad Center is a state-of-the-art facility housing more than 180 researchers conducting studies in regenerative medicine. The 91,000-square-foot building has five levels above grade and one basement level, constructed of a substantial cast-in-place concrete shear wall structure to dampen structural vibration. The building features best-in-class research and teaching laboratories, environmental rooms, tissue/cell culture rooms and a vivarium, as well as amenities such as offices, meeting areas, kitchens, and balconies for informal meetings and interaction.

The key element of the exterior façade is a complex, ventilated curtain wall that reduces heat gain in warmer temperatures and creates an insulating barrier in cool weather, the first of its kind to be installed in Southern California. The project earned LEED Gold Certification through its sustainable features, which include this curtain wall, ample natural lighting, and a chilled beam HVAC system that reduces energy consumption and improves indoor air quality. The facility serves as a hub for the USC Stem Cell initiative, which connects researchers in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine across the university.
