Morley Construction Company provided complete structural concrete services for this acute care hospital in the Escondido Research and Technology business park for the Palomar Pomerado Health District. The hospital includes a Diagnostic & Treatment (D&T) wing and Nursing tower, which features an emergency department, imaging department, and operating rooms. The nursing tower includes 120 medical surgery patient rooms in a nine-story wing and 168-bed acuity adaptable patient rooms in an eleven-story wing.
Approximately 36,600 cubic yards of concrete and 1,850 tons of reinforcing steel were used to complete the moment frame building that employs side plate moment connections. The concrete basement is constructed using a rock anchor system at moment frame locations. The hospital is built on solid granite, which allowed the foundation system to be significantly lean considering the hospital’s size. Morley’s scope of work included reinforced concrete foundations, basement walls, grade slabs, and concrete fills over metal decking.
