The Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, known unofficially as Grand Arts High School, is a performing arts public high school in Los Angeles Unified School District. Morley Construction Company performed all structural and architectural concrete subcontracting services for this nine-building educational campus in Downtown Los Angeles. The campus features a 140-foot tower and a grand stair at the school’s primary entrance. While the design intent included an “as-cast” finish for all architectural concrete walls, it was imperative for Morley to create detailed lift plans so form breaks would appear at construction joint locations. Mockups were created to confirm tie-hole shape and pattern, plywood panel joint pattern, and reveal shape and pattern. In total, 29,476 cubic yards of concrete were placed and 67,500 square feet of walls (50%) were architectural.
