Morley Construction Company provided concrete subcontracting services for the 900,000-square-foot inpatient tower and 375,000-square-foot outpatient building at the LAC+USC hospital complex, consisting of 51,000 cubic yards of cast-in-place, reinforced concrete. The flagship Los Angeles County healthcare facility was set into a hillside requiring construction of a massive architectural concrete retaining wall structure, over 1,000 feet long, up to 40 feet tall, and ranging from 12-inch to 24-inch thick. The project features linear accelerators with concrete-encased lead and steel shielding, subterranean secured entry structures, prisoner treatment facilities, a main loading dock, as well as patient treatment, surgical, food service, and other facilities required of any major regional public health care facility.
