El Cariso Park Gymnasium and Community Center is a design-build project with architect Nadel providing recreational opportunities for children, adults, and families in the community, as well as an investment in public infrastructure. The project consisted of a 15,000-square-foot structure that includes a gym, classroom, multipurpose room, lobby, office space, full kitchen, restrooms, and custodial and utility rooms. The exterior included the construction of an outdoor ceremony space with trellises and a gazebo, a parking lot for 120 cars, a trash enclosure, ADA walkways, security cameras and lighting, and new landscaping. The project earned LEED Silver certification and includes sustainable features such as an infiltration planter that captures 100% of the site’s water runoff and recycles it into the existing soil.
