Brick and Machine is a 156,000-square-foot new Type IIB, 3- to 4-story core and shell office building, over 3 levels of subterranean parking, located in Downtown Culver City. The project includes 60,000 square feet of office space, 15,000 square feet of ground floor retail and restaurant space, and parking for 215 cars. The creative office space is designed to incorporate a reception/lounge, war rooms, open workstations, specialty rooms, and a break room. An indoor/outdoor effect is created through the internal courtyard, diffusing natural light and ventilation, and a rooftop terrace garden with outdoor dining.
The building includes two interlocking, but contrasting components: Brick and Machine. Brick, the north side of the building, is clad in thin-set brick, referencing Culver City’s historic landmarks. Machine, the south side, features storefront and blue, custom-perforated metal panels that utilize solar heat gain reduction, glare control, and natural ventilation.
