The American Concrete Institute (ACI) Southern California Chapter Concrete Awards recognizes outstanding achievements in various categories of concrete construction. Projects are judged on architectural and engineering merit; creativity; innovative construction techniques and use of materials; ingenuity; sustainability and resilience; and functionality.
We are honored to have our project, 42XX, recognized as a 2024 Concrete Award winner by the ACI Southern California Chapter! The creative office campus was named as a winner in the Low-Rise Buildings/Structures category. Congratulations to the entire team, including The Bradmore Group, RIOS, Holmes, House & Robertson, and Catalina Pacific, for their exceptional contributions to this project’s success.
Morley Construction Company provided structural concrete subcontracting services for the 42XX project, a 203,000-square-foot creative office campus in Marina del Rey. The project included new construction of three Type III office buildings. Two of the buildings include a Type I parking garage on two levels below a podium deck. The third building is a three-story freestanding structure. The campus provides 150,000 square feet of rentable office space, 1,500 square feet of retail space, and 396 parking stalls.
The project, designed with a focus on environmental sustainability, utilizes a unique hybrid-structural system incorporating concrete, steel, and mass timber in the form of cross-laminated timber (CLT) beams and floor/ceiling panels, to achieve an overall reduction in embodied carbon and global warming potential, and represents one of the first of its kind implementations in Southern California.
As part of this system, the structural concrete scope of work included 8,944 cubic yards of concrete foundations, slabs-on-grade, columns, shear walls, elevated decks, slabs-on-metal decks, and structural topping slabs placed over cross-laminated timber panels. There was also 17,000 square feet of architectural board formed walls as the signature architectural finish at the ground level.
The Concrete Awards was held on October 24, 2023 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
